Diabetes prevention: reducing related postmenopausal deaths in Latinas
More postmenopausal Hispanic and African American women die from diabetes compared to non-Hispanic white women; however, despite being disproportionately affected by diabetes compared to non-Hispanic whites, postmenopausal Latinas have the same mortality risk as do all postmenopausal women, regardless of race or ethnicity, according to a new UMass Medical School study.
This, suggest experts from the study, suggests diabetes prevention is key to reducing diabetes-related death disparities among women.
