Compact breath sniffer could warn of diabetes - TechHive
Toshiba has developed a prototype which detects trace gases in a person's breath to monitor health indicators.
The device provides analysis results in about 30 seconds.
An infrared laser shines on the exhalation while a spectrum analysis component checks for telltale signs of organic compounds.
Toshiba plans to commercialize the analyzer in 2015, first in Japan and possibly overseas later.
